The United States Border Collie Handlers’ Association’s 2013 national trial will be coming to Belle Grove Plantation in Northern Virginia during the second week of October, with 150 of the top handler and dogs teams from throughout the United States and Canada, along with 10,000 of their fans.
More than 500 seriously caffeinated sheep raised on a steady diet of gunpowder and top end predator movies will comprise the jittery flock that will face off against the well trained dogs.
For those wondering whether they should come, the answer is YES. Belle Grove Plantation is a National Historic Landmark and features a beautiful 1797 manor house on 283 acres. The Plantation is located just 90 minutes west of Washington, D.C., and the weather is guaranteed to be perfect (I have special groundhog weather predictor sources in Punxsutawney, PA).
