According to the ASPCA’s Poison Control Center, Tic-Tacs breath mints poison more dogs than any other product, partly as a consequence of their extra-high Xylitol levels, and partly due to their ubiquity.
What's the danger level? Apparently about 100 milligrams of Xylitol per kilogram of canine body weight. In short, very, very little!
To make it simple: As little as 3 grams of Xylitol (eight piece of chewing gum) is enough to kill a 65 pound dog. As little as two piece of gum could kill a terrier.
Other common products with Xylitol in them include Trident sugarless gum, Rescue Remedy, and many sugarless candies, chewing gums, breath fresheners, nicotine gum, toothpastes, sunscreen, and even some vitamins and diet supplements.
Hat tip to Dolittler for this one.
