On July 1, 1858, the Linnean Society of London heard a joint presentation by Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace on the theory of evolution by natural selection.
In his annual report the following May, society president Thomas Bell wrote:
“The year which has passed has not, indeed, been marked by any of those striking discoveries which at once revolutionize, so to speak, the department of science on which they bear.”
Right. Thomas Bell. Any question as to why no one has ever hear of him?
