Sonny Bono Park Park With Terriers Singing

Sonny Bono... the male half of Sonny and Cher... has his own memorial park in Washington, D.C.

it's not much of a park, but it does in fact exist, and it is located very near my office in a very small, entirely forgettable median strip just below Dupont Circle.

Unknown to all but a very few of those who even know of the park's existence (and you could pass it everyday and not know this park was there), there is a "capsule" of Sonny Bono memorabilia buried in the park.  This capsule apparently inclues the sheet music for "The Beat Goes On," Sonny's "official Congressional cufflinks," and a mug from one of his "Bono's" restaurants."  The park was created by one of Sonny Bono's old restaurant friends who was allowed to put in the plaque in exchange for planting and maintaining the park.

Of course, as time has gone on, the park has deteriorated as fast as the memory of Sonny Bono, and now it's just a worn out little median spit with a brass plaque. Welcome to Washington!

In honor of Sonny Bono, we close this little post with our favorite musical rendition of his most famous song (with Cher on the right). Enjoy!
