Oldest Dog in World Dies

The oldest dog in the world has died at the age of 26 in JapanThe dog was a cross-breed, and obviously very well cared for and with astoundingly tough genes, but most basic longevity markers in dogs can be traced to size (smaller dogs live longer), and proper body weight.  Generally dogs that are a little underweight and living on a "calorie restricted diet" will live longer than dogs that are at their "proper" weight, or are even a little over-weight.

The oldest-known dog on record, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, was an Australian cattle dog named Bluey who lived to age of 29 years and five months before being put down in November 1939.
